payment options

We offer a range of payment options to our customers, although we strongly recommend you take advantage of our online credit card facility, or alternatively, make a direct deposit into our account using telephone or internet banking.

A key issue regarding any fine wine purchase is timing – a global marketplace ensures that particularly attractive parcels may be snapped up elsewhere very quickly, leaving us both high and dry. Having confirmed an order for you, any delay in your payment may result in us losing our hold on the wine you wish to purchase, despite our best efforts to reserve it for you – slower payment methods, including credit card authorisation, cheque and money order sent via post, are particularly inefficient and increase the risk of your catch being the one that got away

Hence, in order of preference, our recommended payment options are:

credit card

We accept American Express, Diners Club, MasterCard, UnionPay and Visa:

Method: Online pre-authorisation (we only authorise your American Express card to be debited once we have confirmed your purchase). Please note that online pre-authorisations appear as payment authorisations on your credit card banking statement, but will automatically expire and disappear as a debit 7 days after your purchase if it is not confirmed by us.
Surcharge: 1.98%. (This surcharge is inclusive of GST.)

Method: Manual authorisation.
Unfortunately, Diners Club do not provide an online pre-authorisation facility. We take orders using Diners Club, but only do this over the phone, via fax or by post. We will only authorise your Diners Club card to be debited once we have confirmed your purchase.
Surcharge: 1.98%. (This surcharge is inclusive of GST.)

Method: Online pre-authorisation (we only authorise your MasterCard to be debited once we have confirmed your purchase). Please note that online pre-authorisations appear as payment authorisations on your credit card banking statement, but will automatically expire and disappear as a debit 7 days after your purchase if it is not confirmed by us.
Surcharge: Nil.

Method: Online authorisation.
Unfortunately, UnionPay do not provide an online pre-authorisation facility. Your UnionPay card will be debited prior to confirmation of your purchase.
Surcharge: Nil.

Method: Online pre-authorisation (we only authorise your Visa card to be debited once we have confirmed your purchase). Please note that online pre-authorisations appear as payment authorisations on your credit card banking statement, but will automatically expire and disappear as a debit 7 days after your purchase if it is not confirmed by us.

payment options not advisable

We strongly encourage you not to email your credit card details to us as email is not an inherently secure method of transmitting information.

payment options not accepted!

We do not accept cash!

We do not offer PayPal:
We would like to offer the convenience and security of PayPal to those customers who prefer to use this facility. However, PayPal's merchant fees are not insignificant, and Section 11.2c (Receiving funds) of their User Agreement prohibits the application of a surcharge. Rather than include a surcharge amount in the landed price of everyone's wine for the benefit of PayPal customers alone, we have decided to keep the price of our wines as low as possible for all concerned, and not offer a PayPal facility at this time. Were PayPal to reverse their current policy, we would offer their facility with an appropriate surcharge.

credit card security

Your financial security is paramount to us – in partnership with our e-commerce provider, we take the necessary steps to ensure our mutual protection from fraudulent activity:

Compliance – cardholder data is not saved on our website to ensure compliance with Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS).

Security – a security certificate of cardholder and payment data is generated using 128-bit Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.

Fraud Reduction – American Express, MasterCard and Visa 3D-Secure and Card Verification Number (CVN) capabilities are employed with real-time authorisation.

Checking – automatic check for available funds and to confirm whether your card has been reported lost or stolen at the time of the transaction.
